Name: Lord Voldemort

Why are they important to this plot line?: He is the Dark Lord, he has immense supremacy when it comes to his devoted servants the Death Eaters; he possesses covetousness for absolute domination over the wizarding world.
Physical Description: Lord Voldemort is known for his reptilian qualities, though once handsome in his earlier years, the parting of his soul left him with snake appearing distinctiveness. He holds staggering crimson gaze that seems to bore into your soul with such enormity it can bring a grown man to his knees. Snake like nostrils have formed upon his visage, and his skin is a peculiarly ashen hue.
Personality: He tends to be brutally callous, with little sentiment when it comes to carnage and devastation. The Dark Lord has a tendency to transform his moods very quickly, though hardly is it for the best. You will find that he can be detached and unsympathetic one moment, then enraged and volatile the next.
Likes: Complete control, his minions, absolute power, destruction and devastation.
Dislikes: Mudbloods, muggles, fools, any person who is on a side other than his own.
History: Tom Marvolo Riddle was born on December 31, 1926 in a Muggle Orphanage, his mother was Merope Gaunt and she had been abandoned and was forced to struggle up the orphanage steps. After labor, Merope died within an hour after giving birth, leaving her son to be raised in the orphanage.
Tom was an odd boy and by the time Dumbledore came to the orphanage to speak to him, he had already begun to do many horrible things. As a child, Lord Voldemort showed that he would rather be by himself, proving he would take care of himself sufficiently without the need of others. He was cruel and cunning and enjoyed to keep little trinkets to remind him of the things he had done. These traits would follow him into his adult years.
When Tom entered Hogwarts he was immediately sorted into Slytherin. At the school, Tom proved himself a grand actor, hiding things from the higher authority and charming his professors with his clean cut image. He became head boy and in addition, received an award for Special Services to the school though the award was given after Tom had framed another student, Rubeus Hagrid, for opening the Chamber of Secrets. The truth being, it had been Tom who had opened the Chamber and released the Basilisk within to terrorize the Muggle-borns.
It took Tom five years to learn about and open the Chamber of Secrets, which was originally built by Salazar Slytherin. Tom discovered that he was the heir of Slytherin, and he too could speak Paseltongue. Tom closed the Chamber after a death of one of the Mudbloods in Hogwarts and decided to reopen the Chamber soon, so he could finish Slytherin’s noble work in ridding Hogwarts of all Muggle-borns.
Through out Hogwarts he decided to learn as much about his family as possible. He ventured to Gaunt cottage in hope of finding his mother’s family, but soon discovered horrific news about his heritage. At the disgustingly rundown cottage, Tom found Morfin who told Tom that Marvolo, who was Tom’s grandfather, was dead. He also learned that his father was not a wizard, but a muggle born, and like Morfin, Tom despised Muggles and all things relating to them.
Out of fury Tom killed his own father and grandparents as well; he managed to modify Morfin’s memory so Morfin would freely confess to the Riddle murders. Tom soon after returned to Hogwarts and decided to ignore his muggle heritage, and began to move on from his status of Heir of Slytherin, he formed a new name for himself… Lord Voldemort.
After his graduation, Voldemort took a job at Borgin and Burkes and discovered many things of value. Though several years later, Voldemort decided to return to Hogwarts and ask Dumbledore for a teaching position, requesting Defense against the Dark Arts. But Dumbledore did not trust Voldemort, and turned down his request, only to find he was unable to keep a DADA professor for longer than one school year.
Many years later, Lord Voldemort returned to public view with his assumed name and ready with an open mind, to bring around a glorious vision of Salazar Slytherin. A world where purebloods ruled and lesser witches and wizards were crushed underfoot. He gathered supporters who took on the name Death Eaters, and began to try and take control. It was at this point that Voldemort had delved so deeply into the Dark Arts he was completely transformed and unrecognizable.
Lord Voldemort began to rise in power, creating a very dark time for the Wizarding world. Some were willing to join him; others attempted to stand against him but ended up wounded or dead. It was the witches and wizards from the Order of the Phoenix who rose against him in the first war.
Voldemort was at his height of power when he heard part of the prophecy made by Sybill Trelawney and it stated:
The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches. Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies.
It was the prophecy that caused Voldemort to bring about his own downfall. He supposed the one the Prophecy spoke about what a child named Harry Potter and he quickly moved to kill the boy while he was still a baby. Instead, Voldemort’s Avada Kedavra curse rebounded on him, ripping his soul from his body and killing him.
His spirit hid in the forests, surviving by inhabiting bodies of small animals and snakes. It was Professor Quirrel who stumbled across Voldemort and was easily convinced to help him. Voldemort possessed Quirell’s body and went on a quest to find the eleven year old Harry Potter, though once again his attempts failed.
While Voldemort was in hiding, one of his followers was trying to continue his work. Lucius Malfoy slipped Voldemort's old diary into the hands of an unsuspecting Ginny Weasley at the beginning of the new school year. The diary was a Horcrux, containing a piece of Voldemort's sixteen-year-old soul. As Ginny poured her thoughts into the diary, the piece of Voldemort's soul within the diary grew stronger. Soon enough Ginny was possessed and was forced to open the Chamber of Secrets to set loose the Basilisk on other students. Though once against, Voldemort was thwarted by the young Harry Potter.
It was years later after finding Peter Pettigrew, Voldemort discovered Barty Crouch Jr. had managed to escape to Azkaban and was eager to re-enter the Dark Lord’s service. They soon restored Voldemort’s body with a complicated piece of Dark Magic that required many things, even the blood of Voldemort’s enemy.
It is at this point that Voldemort continues to rise, though he lost the battle in the Department of Mysteries he goes on to increase in power. Not realizing that two of his Horcruxes were discovered and destroyed.
With the final battle yet to come, it is a matter of speculation what will become of Lord Voldemort. The Prophecy states that either he will kill Harry, or Harry will kill him, as "NEITHER CAN LIVE WHILE THE OTHER SURVIVES"
Family and Pets: Nagini is his exquisite pet snake.
Roleplaying Sample: The graveyard was just as dismal as always; a familiar ill-omened vapor had swept over the tombstones where the crows awaited alongside the ravens, appearing to be an audience awaiting a theatrical occurrence.
In the heart of the cemetery stood a ring of hooded silhouettes, all of them remained still as statues, pending to hear what their master had to say.
“You come upon my single request; you appear before me when the familiar sensation touches your arm…” The man in the center of group spoke enthusiastically, his tone sounded proud as though pleased that all of these men and women had come so quickly, but upon second glance, it was clear that this serpent appearing fiend was mocking his loyal servants.
Lord Voldemort paced the circle of Death Eaters like a savage dog searching for his next meal; his crimson orbs seemed to gleam with fury as he looked into each one of their masked faces with obvious disgust.
He could identify all of there names without even having to eliminate their masks, he knew where they all stood and could tell them apart even if their backs were facing him. He had the capability of sensing some fear mingling with outrage as well as eagerness amongst all of them, he also could tell who dreaded him the most, and who was strictly here because devotion.
“And yet-” He hissed, his nonexistent eyes brows furrowed in outrage, “not all of you have returned…” He spoke of those he had chastised or simply killed, and others who were late- or those who had gotten themselves into Azkaban upon their own imprudence. “I find myself…”
He paused, his facial expression softening ever so slightly, and the few standing nearest to him seemed to relax when seeing this. “I find myself… revolted.” Lord Voldemort snarled, his facial appearance returning to its vicious demeanor once more.
“How many more times are you going to continue to dissatisfy me? You call yourself faithful and committed? Prove it.” He snapped, though not once did his voice reach above a yell, perhaps making him all the more alarming.
