Name: Benton Weatherby
Age: 46
Birthday: September 15th
Bloodline: Half-blood
Why are they important to this plot line?: He is head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. He makes sure the Aurors and other sub departments are on track. He is also an Order Member from the first rise of Voldemort, but doubts whether he should still participate since some of the things the Order does/did (like hide Sirius) is against the law, and if he is caught that's a one way ticket to Azkaban.
Physical Description: Benton is just over 6 feet with a solid build. His hair is a light to dark brown depending on the lighting and time of year. It is short around the sides with a bit of length on top where it likes to curl if not slicked back.
Personality: Most people see him as one with a stick up his ass. He is serious about his work and doesn't take crap from anyone. He has to be this way because of his job. It's up to him to over see those who protect the law, which is more important than ever. Since he is new in the position and his life in in danger because of his status, he isn't one to joke around. However, he isn't a heartless bastard. His early ties to the Order of the Phoenix keep his opinions in check from those the ministry tries to enforce. He knows things that he lets slide, for example the period when Sirius was in hiding. If you were to buy him a drink in the pub, he'd consider you a friend. But watch out. He does have a temper if something is not done right.
Likes: Drinking in the pub, having his life, memories of his wife, and his position of power.
Dislikes: Voldemort and his Death Eaters, people who give him a hard time, work that has not been done that should have a week ago.
History: Benton grew up in a normal wizarding household. His mother was a muggle and his father a wizard. He came to love the best of both worlds. Everyone was happy when he was accepted into Ravenclaw and he worked exceptionally hard all seven years.
As soon as he graduated he took up a job at the ministry and worked his way up. At some point he came across the Order of the Phoenix as times grew dark. He was a relatively good friend toward the lot, but lost contact as there was little need for the Order after Harry Potter survived.
He was perfectly happy working in the Office of Misinformation all those years. Things were going well up until a few years ago. He had a loving wife who also worked at the ministry, and they were finally planing of having some kids. That was until the tragedy of Amelia Bones, former head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, who was killed by death eaters along with several members of her family. He was asked to take up the responsibility because of his good history in the ministry. Unsure at first as he would then be on Voledmort's hit list, he decided to risk it all, with support from his wife, and work for the greater good. A month after he began his wife was murdered as a warning to himself. He was devastated and blamed himself, but took a deeper concentration on the task at hand. He wants the world to be safe so others didn't have to go through the same pain as hundreds and maybe even thousands were going though thanks to Voldemort.
As Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, and a member of Wizengamot, he was conflicted on whether to continue as an Order Member, as he had been hiding information from the Ministry and disagreed with some of the policies that had been concerning the upcoming war. Benton was/is a great supporter of Dumbledore as quite a few of the Aurors are, but fears the punishment that could result in withholding information from the Ministry would have been drastic.
The war had come to an end, or at least Harry Potter had defeated the number one criminal, but everything was falling apart. The upper ranks of the Ministry was untrustworthy, he himself had been interview by the Daily Prophet as well as a committee to weed out the traitors and those under curses. Copycats and Death Eaters that believe Voldemort still lives and they don't want to be fooled again, rampage though the country still committing heinous crimes. At least he had gotten though it with his job, and team, intact.
Family and Pets: Wife- Dawn. Recently murdered. An owl that is technically the Ministry's, but he normally uses it.
Roleplaying Sample:
The afternoon was just peaking and the bustle of the ministry offices were still in full swing before the mad rush home. Not for the Head of Magical Law Enforcement. He would be around well into the night tracing those evil enough to spend his time on. Each day it was a crunch to find the one who no one dared say his name, well apart from those looking for him. As a wise wizard once said 'Fear of the name increases the fear in the thing its self' or something simular. It wasn't as if Weatherby had any place really to go at night anyway besides an empty little house with heart aching memories. Best to put his efforts on his work.
The man strode down an aisle of desks belonging to his team of Aurors, most of them out in the world on missions to hunt down Death Eaters and leads of where Voldemort could be hiding. They had been given word time and time again that he was in the old Riddle mansion, but every visit found nothing and was retracting from valuable time looking.
A stack of papers tucked under his heavily robed arm and an ever present disgruntled look upon his face was a sight that passed through the Auror office several times a day as new leads and more paper work flowed onto his desk and was distributed to his team. At least he was always glad the ministry didn't bother with ever ringing telephones. The mess owls left was enough and much better than annoying sounds. Not always the case with the biters, but what is one to do?
"Gerrard? Where is that girl when you need her? GERRARD!" he called as there were fewer and fewer places to find her. His robes fluttered around his feet as he walked noticing the girls desk deserted. She never seemed to be around when he had a mission for her. What was she doing? He'd stopped trying to figure it out ages ago. There were more important things to do.
