For those of you who don't know me, I will tell you a little about myself. Any of you who already know me, then that's okay. I don't mind telling you again.
Let's see, a bit about me... My name's Luna.
I was named Luna because I was only a few years away from being born on a lunar eclipse.
My father, who works for the Quibbler, said I was also named after the Luna Crow. It was a pure white crow that brought good luck to the Incas. It only flew at night and it was as white as the full moon.
I'm a sixth year student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in Ravenclaw. Incidentally, did you know that ravens are actually descendents of the phoenix? No, honest, I read about it in my father's newspaper, the Quibbler, and it said that Phoenixes started breeding with a now extinct species called Cracklecrooks, and their offspring eventually became what we now call ravens!
Right then. I'm sixteen years old... seventeen in April. A lot of people call me loony or dotty or mad as a hatter, but I think I'm quite sane, actually. They seem to think that my theories are quite off... but I was right about Harry Potter, wasn't I?
Here's some advice you all should take notice of... Do not wear purple today. Esmeralda Snorklebeak, a seer friend of my father, says it is an unlucky colour for this moon.
Bio:
Luna faced tragedy early in her childhood, her mother died when she was nine. Apparently her mother was fond of experimenting and one of her spells went terribly wrong, resulting in her death. Her father is the editor of the Wizard magazine, the Quibbler. The Lovegoods were said to be at the 1994 Quidditch World Cup, but if she was there Luna didn't run into the Weasleys.
Luna was sorted in 1992, the same year Ginny Weasley. She has long shared a sort-of friendship with the youngest Weasley. She picked up the nickname "Loony" while at Hogwarts. Her classmates tend to think her rather odd and they seem to think it's funny to hide her things (though, according to her, she usually gets them back before school officially ends). She was introduced to Ginny's Gryffindor friends (and her brother Ron) on the train ride to Hogwarts in 1995. She was very vocal in her support of Harry that year (despite stories in the Daily Prophet that made him out to be a liar) and later became a member of his secret Defense Against the Dark Arts group, the DA. She was also a big supporter of Ron in Quidditch. She fashioned herself a large lion hat that roared. She and Hermione started off on the wrong foot on the train ride to Hogwarts in 1995. Hermione insulted the Quibbler, not realizing Luna's dad was the editor. Even though she didn't agree in the least with Luna on most things, they did unite to give Harry a chance to tell his story to the press. Luna got her father to agree to print the story and Hermione got Rita Skeeter to write it.
In June of 1996 Luna joined her new Gryffindor friends when they went on a mission to rescue Sirius Black at the Ministry of Magic. They were unexpectedly attacked by Death Eaters, Luna came through unscathed unlike most of her friends.
Her friendship with the group continued into her fifth year (which started September of 1996). Once again, she was in the company of Harry Potter on the train ride there. She hoped he would start up the D.A. again (as she said it was almost like having real friends) but Harry informed her this would not happen. Despite the bad and uncomfortable beginning of their relationship, Luna found herself comforting Hermione after she had a hurtful spat with Ron. Harry walked up on this and surprised Luna when he asked her to be his date to a Christmas party one of his Professors had invited him too. He told her this was a 'just friends' date, but she was THRILLED for a just friends date. She also got a chance to do Qudditch commentary and though it was horrible for anyone who actually cared about the score, it was quite amusing otherwise. She was pleasantly surprised (and at first sure he was making fun of her) when Ron told her it was brilliant.
June seems to be a time of tragedy at Hogwarts and June of 1997 saw tragedy's return. Instead of a fight at the Ministry, Luna faced Death Eaters at the school. She and Neville responded alone to a call to action for the D.A. (a call headed by Ron, Hermione, and Ginny). Order members were on hand for the fight as well, but when they finally fled school grounds Dumbledore was dead. Luna was in her friend Neville's company at the funeral.

Now it just so happens that Luna was walking down the corridor on her way to the library; but she had been told that someone had set off dungbombs in there. Luna wondered if it were really dungbombs, or if it was the Spangled Meepleborg that acted the same way as a dumgbomb if scared or attacked. It could have been easy for someone to accidently (or on purpose) cause one to let off its defensive odour.
What Luna wanted to to know was how one would have gotten into the school and if there was a colony of them in the Forbidden Forest and they decided to enter the school. Of course they would go to the library. Spangled Meepleborgs were quite notorious for eating books and had a sweet tooth for homework.
But the Ravenclaw was thrown off when she saw two shady looking Slytherins exiting a room with satisfied looks on their faces. That seemed awfully suspiscious, considering that room, as far as Luna knew, was no longer used; so therefore an empty classroom. Perhaps, Luna thought, they captured a Spangled Meepleborg and shut it in that room.
There was only one way for the curious (and rather nosy) Ravenclaw girl to find out. She stopped to look at a painting on the wall, which she appeared to be paying great attention to as she watched the buffalo grazing in an open plain. Then, when the twins walked down the corridor and turned the corner out of sight, Luna went over to the room they had just come from.
"Hello?" She said as she knocked lightly on the door with her other hand on the doorhandle. Then again, if it was a Spangled Meepleborg, she would need to speak its language so she wouldn't scare it before she entered. "Mergleburk." she said (which was Meeplish for "It's alright, I am not a nasty predator that wants to eat you.").
When there was no reply, Luna figured the Spangled Meepleborg was either sleeping, or nobody was in there. Only one way to find out. Right? She opened the door slowly and carefully, then entered the room. Luna closed the door behind her incase the Spangled Meepleborg woke up. She didn't want it escaping.
But what she saw was not a Spangled Meepleborg; but another student lying on the floor in a pool of blood. Hurrying over to the boy, Luna withdrew her wand and cast some healing charms to stop the bleeding and close the wounds until Madam Pomfrey could do a more professional job. Then she conjured a stretcher and levitated him onto it, leaving the room quickly and rushed him for the Hospital Wing.
