Name: Hagan Crosse
Age: 56
Occupation: Ancient Runes Professor
Personality:
Hagan is rather quiet, preferring to listen to what others have to say, rather than talk about himself (even though he has many interesting stories he could tell). He is a stern teacher, expecting his students to give their best at all times; though outside of work when he has time to be himself he is different, showing his real character of being quite easy going. Back in his time as a student, Hagan was quite a pranskter, always getting into mischief.
Description:
Hagan is of average height and build, eyes that are round and bright, a friendly smile and a kindly disposition.
Background:
Hagan was born to pureblood parents, Rupert Crosse (Minister Official) and Emerline Pratt - Crosse (Mediwitch St Mungos). He was an only child and well loved by his parents, who were very proud of their son and brought him up to be a kind and compassionate person. Hagan disliked anything to do with Dark Wizards and when he left Hogwarts he trained to become an Auror. His career was short lived however, when he was forced into an early retirement at the age of 35 when an injury left him unable to complete his work.
Hagan was a very promising Auror and was immediately noticed by the superiors. Placed in preference by the more veterans, he was quickly trusted by the novices and the other Aurors... He got in close contact and friendship with people in the Ministry because of his prodigious talent, and somewhere along the line he was confided with guarding Horace Slughorn, because the Ministry did not want such a Potions Master in the hands of the enemy. Lucius was a trusted friend of Hagan's and although he never told Lucius about his mission, everyone thought they were friends and a loose mouth member of the ministry let it slip. Bringing such information to the Dark Lord was indeed good news, and Lucius was charged to lead the operation.
Slughorn wasn't in fact Slughorn, but nothing more than a bait. Lucius took charge of the DE assault team. They already knew the numbers of the enemy and their positions. There were 3 of them and the DE ambushed them one by one; but Hagan escaped and by the time he got to the hideout, they were already there. He was captured and they kept him alive because they believed he knew Horace's real location. While they had him they tried to get the information from him with Veritaserum and Legilems, but Hagan is a skilled Occlumancer and was able to keep that information hidden. He gave them false information and they were not happy when they went to the location he supplied them with, only to find it was an abandoned warehouse. So they tortured him but did not use Cruciatus on him because they did not want to risk breaking him emotionally; however, once they were sure he did not have the information, they did not kill him because Hagan seemed like the perfect counterintelligence agent (well connected, respected, and skilled in Occlumens)!! So they wanted him on his side.
He could not be Imperius-controlled because many people knew him and the change of attitude would be noticed immediately, and then he would have been able to sell out the DEs because he had seen them. So, Lucius thought it would be a fun irony to kill him with one of the potions the person he was protecting invented himself. But Lucius was not as skilled as Horace in Potions, and he made some mistakes, therefore making the potion have a much weaker effect... He gave it to Hagan and then left him in the night. Hagan seemed dead and Lucius left the body in the old abandoned warehouse; but he wasn't, he just comatosed, and was taken to St Mungos.
Many months later Hagan was released from St Mungos; but he was never the same again. His eyesight had been affected by the poison, plus he suffered with the shakes, sometimes chronically, not even able to hold a quill or wand.
Because of this, his life as an Auror was over.
But after Albus' death, he was approached by a friend from the Ministry, asking him to take the position of Ancient Runes professor. Hagan reluctantly agreed.
